Core Skill Updates - June 2025

We're refreshing the core skill selection for job posting!

The core skill categories used for job postings on s1jobs and jobs24 have been updated. The update is designed to modernise terminology and provide clearer skill groupings for both employers and jobseekers

Overview of the Update

We have refreshed several existing core skill categories and replaced them with updated names that better reflect the current job market. These updated categories will appear automatically when creating or editing job adverts.

The new categories are already active behind the scenes. Live job postings will be updated to reflect the new skill names without any action required from you.

If You Cannot Find an Exact Core Skill

If you cannot find a core skill that exactly matches your job role, simply choose the closest related category. The core skill selection helps categorise roles, but it is not the main factor that influences how jobseekers find your advert.

Jobseekers typically find roles through keyword searches, which focus on the wording in your job title and job description.

To make your advert more discoverable:

Use a clear, searchable job title

Choose a job title that jobseekers will recognise and search for. Avoid internal job titles or non standard terms.

Include strong keywords in your job description

Use relevant skills, responsibilities and industry terms throughout the description. Repeat important keywords naturally where appropriate.

For example, if you are hiring for a Digital Marketing Executive, include words such as digital marketing, SEO, PPC and campaign management several times where they make sense.

This approach ensures your advert appears in more search results, even if your selected core skill is a close match rather than an exact one.

Posting New Roles

  • Look for the updated skill categories when posting new jobs.
  • If a familiar category is missing, consult the updated list for its new equivalent.
  • If you use an ATS, expect the new categories to appear once your provider completes their update.
